This is a preliminary post because it is currently on going. This is just to give a heads up on the initial phase of this scam.
I simply stumbled upon it looking while for employment when I replied to this advertisement on Gumtree:

Asking for additional details I was then sent this reply:

And then this reply:
Hello,
I got your email/resume applying for the position which I advertised on the internet. I'm okay with your resume as regards the driver job, also for accepting the offer. I have contacted my wife concerning the job and for other purpose which she might need you for, which she told me is okay by her, I believe you are fit for this position in as much as you will prove yourself a reliable and good person. Your activities amongst other things will include: Pick up my wife at the airport and driver her down to her hotel and whenever she needs to attend official meetings throughout her stays you would drive her down to the venue and take drive her back and whenever she needs to do some shopping am sure you would be able to do some errand for her. Her arrival date should be july 25th. I will prefer you have your own car and if you don't I will hire a car for you.
I would be offering you £300 weekly. So i will like to make a one week deposition before her arrival so that i will be assured that i had secured your services. Also I want you to know that my client who is in UK will be sending you a cheque which I want you to know that the remaining funds will be used by my wife for her travel expenses, accommodations and any other expenses.

You will notice now that there several warning signs. A: Not addressed to me personally B: A cheque is involved C: Why should I be given the monies for her travel expenses?
The joewein.net scam scamomatic program did flag the cheque part but was not sure what the scam is exactly.
Likewise neither am I. I know it is a scam of some sort and am continuing to play it along until I find out how they are going to extract money.
I have much more on this but will post the rest when it runs to the end.
