I too almost fell into this trap, below are the emails that I received from the scammer, boy do I feel silly, but relieved I googled it first before moving forward, it just seemed odd that they would post an ad in a local paper, but wanted to then ship the puppy:

We also need you to assure us that you can take good care of her. Also let us know when you want to take her home. Pleas answer the following questions.
Why do you want a puppy at this time?
Do you have any experience with pups?
Will you send us updates and pictures about her from time to time?
We are just being concerned about the type of home she will be going to, so that is why we are curious to know. I have been with dogs all my life as my Grand Father was a pet lover. I usually go there on holidays and would spend much time with the animals and house pets there. Ginas mother Milo was given to me as a wedding gift by my grandfather. Milo died of heart disease a month ago.
We traveled to Cameroon on research base. We are out to carry out biological research on the bark of tress in Cameroon. The country is good in wood and some of the trees serve as medicines. We would be in Cameroon for 7 months before coming back. The climate here is not too good for English bulldogs. So that is why we have decided to send her back. It will really do us much good if you can take good care of her because she needs much care. . There will be no problem flying her to you as she has all her health papers and she will come with them. She is perfectly healthy and her shots are up to date. All you will need to do is to get back to us with the name of the person who will pick her up from the airport and the name of the nearest airport to your location. Then we will fly her there so that you can pick her from the airport. Also, you will have to take care of the shipping fee which is $180 and that includes airport charges so you will not have any other fee to pay. She is ready to go on adoption right now so as soon as you are ready, we can fly her to you.
You will pay the $180 directly to the shipping company. We will make the shipping arrangements and have them contact you to let you know how the payment and delivery works.
What we want is a loving and caring home and you have promised us that, so that is the reason why we want you to accept our little girl into your lovely home and take her as your new family member. We really count on you if you can be there for her.
It really hurts to let her go but we have to for her own good.
