I applied to a tutoring position in a company that apparently sets you up with tutees in your city. The add was on an e-bay like site (but for my city) and looked like this:
--------------------
Tutors WANTED - very flexible, all grades/subjects
Date Listed 24-Mar-12
Address *************** (I left it out as per fraudwatcher rules)
Job Type Part-Time
We require tutors for 1 on 1, in home tutoring all over the Winnipeg area.
All grades/all subjects. You tutor only the subjects/grades you want.
We have a HUGE NEED for high school math and science tutors.
YOU MUST MUST MUST SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH. If you do not speak fluent english, please dont apply. The students need to understand you.
Very flexible schedule, pay starts at $20/hour + raises and bonuses.
Please send ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS and resume in the BODY of the email, no attachments.
--------------------
All spelling is original (including the missing " ' " in "dont apply".
To this I sent a small message with my academic qualifications, but since the site doesn't allow for more than a few characters, I (fortunately) could not send much. All they know of me is what I said I was qualified for, my first name, and my email address, which includes my last name.
I got the following email today (again, this is a copy paste, so all spelling and spelling mistakes are original of the email):
-------------
Thank You for contacting us about Tutoring!
We have reviewed your resume, academic history and application and we feel you would make a good tutor. You will start receiving tutor postings so we can see how you do with students.
We offer a VERY flexible way to make some extra cash. Around your schedule, you take on as many students as you want. You decide the area you want to tutor and what courses/grades.
For FULL company and job information: http://www.learnon.ca/tutor_info.pdf
To Register to be a tutor: http://www.learnon.ca/portal/index.p...t/create/tutor
How it works:
It is a contract position so you dont get anything deducted from your pay cheque; you claim your income taxes.
It is 1 on 1, in home (sometimes library, but priority is in-home)
We can not guarantee a set amount of hours, but we send out postings all the time so make sure you reply to anything that is of interest in your area.
You will receive tutor postings indicating tutoring/student info, ONLY reply to the ones that are of interest to you.
When you are given a session, please SHOW UP, its not fair to stand students up. They rely on us!
Postings indicate how much the hourly pay will be. Most postings will be starting at $18/hour. However depending on other elements and factors you will see postings that will be higher.
Tutors will receive a 10% raise for a given student after completing 4, 8 and 12 sessions, up to a maximum of three (3) raises per student.
We recommend you pick a CONVENIENT distance, about 15-20 min around your house. It is not worth it if you spend a lot of time traveling to get there. DO NOT reply to postings that are far away from you.
ONLY REPLY if you are 200% sure you can do the subject matter.
Please keep replying to postings that are of interest to you and in your area.
You will also be getting HOMEWORK POSTINGS from a partner company called eHomework, these postings are to complete assignments for university and adult students. These postings usually contain the assignment information, the deadline etc. Do not do them until it is assigned to you. Once a homework posting is assigned toy ou, you can complete it from the comfort of your home, and email the assignment back when it is done.
If you do not want to do assignment postings reply to it asking it to unsubscribe.
Homework and Tutoring postings are two different types of postings coming from 2 different companies.
Let me know if you have ANY questions.
Thanks!

I have left the name out as per your site rules in case it is not a scam. If it is, I will post the name afterwards.
The reason I became suspicious was the lack of professionalism in their web-page (for a company that is supposedly in multiple cities in two different countries), the grammar/spelling errors (which for a company that specializes in teaching that sort of thing is... well, weird), and the overall readiness to let me in without even an interview or a full resume.
I looked them up online and all I can find about them is what is on their own web-pages. There is no reviews of the company anywhere. I am ready to back out right now, but want to see what you think.
Thank you very much for your input and your help. I appreciate the work you are doing here; it is important and invaluable.
