I am based in South Africa and had my goods for sale on a local Auction/online selling site.
I received a legitimate sale confirmation from the actual site, followed by an email from the "buyer". The " buyer" then confirmed payment into their PayPal linked account and this naturally lead to an email from "PayPal".
They almost had me until I noticed the following:
- The shipping address was for the US (for a purchase in Africa???)
- The PayPal email address was from paymentdetails@representative.com, and not from the PayPal.com domain
- They would not give me a contact number after requesting one (which could obviously be traced to a location based on dialling codes)
So be sure to watch out for fake payment detail emails from PayPal.....
