Hi everyone, this is my first post, so please accept my apologies if it's in the wrong area or if anything is askew. I have a lot to say and am not sure where to turn at this point.
Last August, my website, EnglishAid.net, was hacked and it caused all sorts of problems. I shut the site down for just over a semester until I had time to look at what was wrong. It turns out the site was hacked through my forum that I use with my students. After changing hosts and paying for extra security, I have spent the last several months updating and upgrading the site.
Last week I checked out my site on Google and found a trail of sites were cascading information from one to the other that appeared to be from August. I've tried contacting these sites and found something strange about 1 in particular, myWOT.com.
After messaging one of the active reviewers, explaining the problem, and asking them to look at my site again, the person posted, ""this site is used to enter personal info that can make hackers make a profile of you, and sell it in underground shops." (http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/englishaid.net)
There is absolutely no basis for this claim and I was furious. I contacted my hosting company and talked to them for nearly 30 minutes (I'm in Korea and calling the US from your cell costs a fortune) while they scanned my site. They checked everything including the plugins and found nothing. My site also has SiteLock, a service I pay for that scans my site every day.
Then I found that myWOT sells security badges for people to put on their sites, and this is probably the only way for me to get them to change their raiting.
2 questions:
1. Is myWOT a scam?
2. Is there anything that can be done about a site posting slanderous, damaging information about another site without any basis or evidence? My host won't contact third parties in situations like this, and I'm left on my own here.
Thank you, I know this post is a lot to take in and I appreciate you taking the time to read it!
