RE: China Scammer LongTong International Rueben Ji AKA CHUN-TAO-JI
I was recently scammed by a guy in Xian China. His name is Reuben Ji and also goes by the name CHUN-TAO-JI. He operates a website (www.Willowbasketry.com) in which he claims to offer Wicker Goods for sale and custom order. His companies are LongTong Arts & Crafts Co.,Ltd. and
LongTong International Inc.
My first purchase was a sample placed in December and delivered in January 2013. It was only $150 and everything performed as agreed. Then when I was able to get a large retail order ready I placed a med size order on Jan 19, 2013 for US$18,265 Rueben Gi replied and accepted the order and gave me a bill of lading 3 days later showing all goods were shipping from port of Shanghai
Red Flag #1 - I should have known 3 days was too fast to get an order of this size ready for shipping
Based on the BOL I then wired him US$18,265 to his account at China Construction Bank of Xian, China - 42 Gaoxin Rd Yanta, Xi'an +86 29 8821 1746
Red Flag #2 - the account was in the name of CHUN-TAO-JI which I later realized was a Chinese named person and not a company
After about a week of no contact I called Rueben Ji and asked about the order and he told me it is on the boat. After a month I again checked on the shipment and Rueben Ji said the shipment was held up in customs and I must pay a 5% USA import/export fee. This was $913.25 which I complained about but finally agreed to wire to his account.
Red Flag #3 - Any US Based customs fee I now find out would be paid by a Customs Broker here in the States not in China!
Since that last payment Rueben Ji has failed to respond to emails and had been dodging my phone calls. I one time got him on the phone by calling from Skype and he was abusive and said, you money is been ate by the shipping company, so sorry no luck
I called the shipping company listed on the BOL and discovered that no such shipment had ever been sent via their shipping carrier.
I have called Law enforcement and they tell me there is little they can do. They referred me to the Chinese Police Authorities and despite several phone calls and letters they have not responded. I reported the fraud to this guys ISP and to the American Embassy in China. I hope anyone reading this will be smarter than I was. Rueben Ji or CHUN-TAO-JI or whoever he may really be is a crook !
