While looking at raptorsnest.com, a legitimate site used by falconers, when I came across this ad:
"i have 2 months old eurasian eagle owl for sale . i been hand rearing him since 2 weeks old . unfortunately due to downsizing my home i am unable to accomodate any pets . he is close rung and got all papers in place . he is healthy and still growing feathers and eating 5-6 days old chicks a day . he comes to your hand when you offer food and he will learn more once given more time .i am also including gloves , jess sets and creanches to train him accordingly . he will go for $800 including shipping."
My word! What a deal! I have an Eagle Owl that I bought from a breeder in 2005 and she cost $3500. And no one in their right mond would call them a pet. "Close rung?" I have been a falconer for 15 years and never heard this phrase. Though spelled wrong, he knew several falconry terms. And I have been looking to expand my owlry. Of course, I responded to the ad. With so many misspelled words and phone numbers from other countries I figured I'd be an idiot to finalize this purchase.
